Against Lexical Decomposition in Syntax

Gerhard Jager, Reinhard Blutner 2006

Talks about the behavior of "again" in constructs like:

  1. John opened the window again.

Here, there are 2 possible readings: Either John opened it earlier, or it was open earlier.

They use this case to argue against decomposing individual lexical items into multiple heads at the syntax level.
